Senior Veteran Spotlight

  • Brown

    Zachary Brown

    United States Airforce

I am an active-duty Senior Airman at the Air Force Academy Fire Department. I am studying Organizational Leadership and plan to graduate this Spring. I’ve served in the Air Force for almost 3 years now and hope to either pursue a civilian career in fire or commission as an Officer in the Air Force next year. I have 3 young children, Oliver, Adalynn, and Elaine who keep me busy! In my free time I enjoy fly fishing and elk hunting. I hope to use my degree to become a more impactful leader to my troops and within the Air Force.

    Devin A. Jaques

    United States Army

I served in the Army for 5.5 years as an Engineer Equipment repairer. I was stationed in Fort Riley KS, and Fort Carson Co, and did one tour in Iraq. I learned a lot about myself, and even more about the world around me. This opportunity gave me many unique experiences that I will stick with me forever, from the people I was lucky enough to meet, and all the incredible places I got to see. The greatest lessons I learned were to cherish the moment in the present even when the circumstances are less than ideal, to remember that everyone's battle is different, kindness and compassion go a long way, and call your mom!

    Dustin Smart

    United States Army

I enlisted in the US Army in 1989 after graduating from Natrona County High School. I was assigned as an Infantryman to the 101st Airborne Division at Ft Campbell KY. I deployed with that unit to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990. I served my 3-year enlistment then pursued a different path working in the construction and remodel industry. I started my college path in 2018 at Casper College, earning a AS in Psychology before transfering to UW Casper. I am so grateful for the friendly faculty at UW-Casper and for the VR&E program through the VA which has given me the opportunity to pursue my Master’s of Social Work with which I hope to work in the VA to help other veterans access their benefits and better their life as they adjust to life after military service.
