About the Program

Technical Education:

Is becoming more important for everyone to understand because of our technical society.
It influences our work, the products that we use, even our recreational activities.
Needs to be studied so everyone can understand it, use technological products wisely, and help shape the future direction of our society.

As an technical educator, you will:

Gain a broad understanding of technological systems in the areas of communication, manufacturing, construction, transportation, and power and energy production.
Develop knowledge and skill in working with technological tools and processes in each of these activity areas. Learn how to turn your knowledge of industrial and technical systems into curriculum for the classroom

Program Requirements

The requirements to obtain the bachelor of science degree in technical education include studies in both professional education courses, and industrial technology specialization. The professional sequence of courses in education is designed to provide a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the classroom. You will learn about teaching strategies, curriculum development and the history of education, and then through practical experience, have an opportunity to put this knowledge to use in the classroom.

Technical Specialization

The technical specialization area includes study in the areas of welding, manufacturing, construction, woodworking, drafting and computer-aided design, graphic design, electronics, and energy and power technology. In addition, students select from one or more areas of concentration depending upon their interest. These concentrations provide for more focused study in the areas of automotives, multi-media communications, drafting, electronics, machining, welding or woodworking.

Career Opportunities

A graduate from the UW/CC Technical Education program can reasonably expect to entertain offers of employment from school districts throughout Wyoming, and across the United States as well. In fact, employment prospects in the field have not been brighter in decades due to a large number of teacher retirements and school district expansion of industrial technology programs.
