UW International Insurance

Whether you are engaging in study, research, internships or community engagement abroad, you are required to have UW International Insurance, or to be participating on a program through one of our approved partner programs where insurance is included as part of your fee.

The UW International Insurance plan is tailored to the needs of the UW community. Here is an overview of services provided by the plan:

  • Comprehensive emergency coverage abroad
  • Medical, security and natural disaster evacuation services
  • Travel assistance service
  • Current cost of the insurance is detailed below:
    • 1-14 days: $25
    • 15-30 days: $50
    • One semester: $150
    • Academic Year: $300

Benefits

  • Low cost, calculated by days of coverage
  • Deductible: $0 
  • Major medical insurance benefits while overseas- $100,000 medical accident and injury including hospitalization
  • Evacuation services for medical emergencies- $250,000 medical evacuation
  • Repatriation from anywhere in the world- $100,000 repatriation 
  • Natural and political disaster evacuation coverage- $100,000 non-medical evacuation including war, civil unrest, and natural disaster
  • 24/7 travel assistance and support

Plan coverage

Covered

  • Treatment outside the U.S. for injuries or illnesses that occur abroad.

Not covered

  • Medication for pre-existing conditions. Please plan to bring enough medication with you for your entire time abroad.
  • Loss arising from participation in professional sports, scuba diving, hang gliding, parachuting, or bungee jumping. 
  • Elective medical care includes dental care, routine physical exams, and routine eye exams.
