Lamb-a-Year: Real-World Learning, Industry Impact
Each year, regional producers donate lambs that fuel hands-on learning, support applied research, and generate critical funds for outreach. Students gain real-world experience in animal management, nutrition, marketing, and carcass evaluation—connecting the classroom to the rangeland. Donated lambs are tracked from pasture to processor using advanced tools like GrowSafe feeders, generating performance data that informs producers and powers innovation.
Top-performing lambs are recognized annually, and donors are honored at the Sheepherders
Come Bye banquet.

The UW Blanket Project: Tradition Woven with Innovation
Launched in 2021, the UW Blanket Project transforms wool from the university’s Rambouillet flock into limited-edition throws that fund teaching, research, and outreach in the sheep and wool industry. Each blanket begins on the Laramie plains, where our flock—certified at the highest level of American Wool Assurance—provides premium fiber for this one-of-a-kind product.
The Blanket Project is more than a fundraiser—it’s a research platform. Graduate students and partners track every step of production, from shearing to spinning, to study blockchain-based traceability. This work supports value-added innovation and builds new market opportunities for Wyoming producers.
Every blanket purchased supports students, honors ranching heritage, and helps shape the future of Wyoming wool.
