The first step is to sign up for ANSC 3555: Basic Equine Evaluation. This course is offered in the spring semester. For enrollment assistance contact Lacey Lindsay at lteigen@uwyo.edu.
After being enrolled in the judging class for one semester, you are eligible to be selected as a member of the competitive team that travels to national contests. Individuals with extensive experience prior to college may be selected as a competitive team member at the coach's discretion. Being a member of the competitive horse judging team requires travel outside of class time for practices and for contests.
The UW Horse Judging Team does not give individual scholarships. All scholarships are academic based and are awarded through the Brand of Excellence Scholarship Program through the College of Agriculture. For information please contact Kerry Casper at (307) 766-3046 or kcasper2@uwyo.edu.
A student is eligible to compete at the national contests if they have been enrolled
at UW for at least one semester and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25. A normal
judging career consists of one semester of class-work in the spring followed by practice
and traveling in the fall of the same year. This in no way affects eligibility for
any other judging teams at UW.
Horse judging is open to all students enrolled at UW. We are looking for hard-working people with a competitive attitude and the willingness and desire to learn more about the horse industry.
