Since 1997, Terry Rosenberg has drawn or painted in the rehearsal halls of the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Kirov Ballet, the Dance Theater of Harlem, and the American Ballet Theater. Unlike the work of French Impressionist Edgar Degas (1834-1917) whose subject was the dancer, Rosenberg's subject is the dancer's motion. Working from direct observation to capture the graceful and poetic motion of the figure, this exhibition presents thirteen of his large, abstract, and visceral paintings on canvas. A performance with choreographer and dancer Kelly Holcombe offers an opportunity to understand more fully Rosenberg's creative process.
