In the fall of 2020, the Wyoming Legislature in partnership with the University of
Wyoming awarded federal CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security)
grants to students who met certain qualifications. Some populations of students, particularly
students who are not U.S. citizens, were ineligible to receive the grants, thus sparking
a larger conversation within the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming
(ASUW) student Government about inequities and disparities of financial aid for our
peers.
In addition to being excluded from these grants, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) recipients and international students are not eligible for other federal financial
aid or scholarships. With ongoing budget cuts at UW, scholarships for students who
are not U.S. citizens are dwindling.
To find out more and consider donating to this fund for DACA and international students
at UW visit the United We Dream: Support DACA and International Students page.
