The Department of Atmospheric Science has been active in airborne atmospheric research since the 1960s. Since then, several aircraft have been acquired, modified for research, and flown hundreds of projects. Instrumentation has improved and science objectives have expanded. The current research platform is a King Air 350 that provides improved operational capabilities, allowing the facility to continue to support evolving needs for many more years to come.
