Research Experience for Undergraduates

Program Overview

The UW Department of Chemistry is offering summer research fellowships for students from community colleges in Summer 2026! The fellowships provide students a unique opportunity to work in a research lab with a professor or graduate student mentor. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the UW campus, meet other students from around the state and the country, and to get real-life, hands-on research experience!

 REU Group

 

Features

  • Spend ten-weeks working in a University of Wyoming research lab under a faculty or graduate student mentor (accommodations are provided)
  • Extra-curricular activities such as a trip to Yellowstone/Tetons, a visit to the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), a Colorado Rockies Baseball game, and more
  • $7,000 stipend for the summer, plus $200 for travel.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a community college student; preferably from Wyoming, although students from around the country are welcome to apply!
  • Must be able to come to Laramie, Wyoming for ten weeks during the summer of 2026, from late May to late July 2026
  • Must be majoring in a science or engineering field.

 

Research projects

The program offers a wide variety of research projects (10 REU projects and participating faculty mentors) for students interested in energy science - fundamental chemistry research is at the heart of all the REU projects. Each REU student is assigned a research project and works closely with faculty mentors, graduate students and other research undergraduates.

 

Location

UW is located in the southeast corner of Wyoming in the town of Laramie. Summer is the best time at UW and when you are not working on solving global energy problems, there will be numerous opportunities to get outdoors and bond with your fellow REU colleagues.
