Admissions information for UW Casper campus
Please be sure your application is for the CNSL MS-UW at Casper program for fall term.
This is a 3-year, hybrid, cohort program (with both online courses AND intensive weekends in Casper) that admits every 3 years in fall. The next cohort will be in the fall of 2028.

Fall 2025:
The application deadline was January 17, 2025, for fall 2025.
The application portal for Fall 2025 is closed.
Any updates on the Interview Day event and process will be posted under Step 3 below.
Fall 2028:
Application deadline is January 20, 2027, for fall 2028.
The application portal for fall 2028 will not open until spring of 2027.

GRE
Domestic Students
GPA: 3.0
GRE: no requirement
International Students
TOEFL: 80 minimum online score and 20 minimum score in each subset, OR IELTS: 6.5
minimum overall score with 6 minimum in each subset.
GRE: 291 minimum
How to Apply
Step 1: Apply to UW and the School of Counseling, Leadership, Advocacy, and Design through the online applicant portal.
Access the UW graduate applicant portal.
Locate the Counseling MS-UW at Casper graduate program. Make sure to indicate you are applying for the fall semester.
After completing the initial information page, you will receive an email from the system including a link and your temporary username and password.
Please complete the contact, academic, residency information, etc.
Submit the application fee.
Submit ALL required documents to the online document portal (see below for details)
Agree to the admissions terms and submit your application.
Step 2: Transcripts
Upload copies of transcripts from all colleges into your application.

Note: Please do not wait to have ALL colleges send official transcripts to Admissions. It is University policy that the UW Admissions Office require official transcripts from every college you have attended. This includes your undergraduate transcript, AND all the colleges that you have transferred coursework from.
This process can take some time to request, send, receive, and process.
Official transcripts do not need to be received by the UW Admissions Office by the application deadline.
UW Admissions requires them to formally admit you for fall.
Do not wait to do this.
If you attended UW, you do not have to contact UW Admissions Office to send official transcripts to
UW. They will know to "pull' them when you are admitted.
Step 3: Personal Interview Day
Completed applications are initially reviewed, and faculty members invite the qualified applicants to attend the required interview day. Students will participate in several group activities, a personal interview, and tour the campus and/or facility.
*Save the date: Saturday, March 8, 2028, in Casper.
Typically, we invite one-half the students to join us in the AM, from 8:00am to 1:00pm, and we invite the other one-half to join us in the PM, from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
Light refreshments will be provided for all students from 12 noon to 1:00pm while interviewees may visit and chat with current CNSL MS students.
We simply cannot replicate the face-to-face Interview Day Event via zoom. Please do try to attend in person.
Please make tentative and/or reimbursable travel arrangements as needed.
Also, please pay attention to Wyoming weather and roads when traveling. Be safe!
-We may use Google Surveys to track RSVPs.
*The invites to interview day typically will go out mid to late February.
Cohort Selection Process
Please do allow us for up to 6 weeks, minimum, after Interview Day, to meet, review Interview Day feedback, scores, completed application materials, and discuss, and selected our cohort for summer. This is a very long process, and it does take time. We may send out two rounds of acceptance letters. We appreciate your patience.

A letter of intent describing including:
The primary reasons for your desire to become a professional counselor.
Your attributes as well as challenges in pursuing a counseling career.
How your life experiences have prepared you for a career in counseling.
What kind of student you are and how you manage stress
How your personal values and experiences prepare you to meet the ethical obligation of the counseling profession and practice with respect, knowledge and skills related to clients with a variety of different backgrounds and multicultural issues.
Other factors that you believe may be helpful in evaluating your application.
A summary of your academic background
A current professional resume
Upload Copies of transcripts; (official transcripts should be sent from schools directly to UW Admissions)
Current recommendation letters addressing counseling and leadership skills from three different referees (the portal will send a request to each of them after you enter their email addresses)
Recommendation Letters (3 required)
In the application portal, please enter in the contact information for the 3 people you would like to write recommendation letters on your behalf. The application portal will email them directly with directions on how they will upload their letter into your application.

*Please be sure your 3 people are aware you are applying to graduate school and give them heads up to expect the email with directions and inform them of the application deadline.
They will receive emails with instructions. They may need to check their spam, junk, or other folder for the UW email. If they cannot locate it, their email may be blocking ours, so please reach out to UW Admissions Office.
