Conduct Process Steps

UW's cowboy mascot, Pistol Pete, stands confidently with hands on hips at a lively event, surrounded by people and tables displaying materials.

A concern is shared with the Dean of Students Office through UW CARES, a direct report, or another University office.

Our team reviews the information to determine:

  • Whether the concern falls under the Student Code of Conduct
  • Whether outreach, support, or a conduct process is appropriate

Not every report results in disciplinary action.

If follow-up is needed, the student receives:

  • Written notice via UW email
  • Information about next steps and available support

A meeting is scheduled to:

  • Explain the process
  • Review the concern
  • Answer questions
  • Discuss resolution options

Students may bring a support person.

Outcomes may include educational requirements, warnings, probation, or other sanctions, depending on the situation.

Some decisions may be appealed based on specific criteria outlined in the Code.
