SOAR is a competency based program at UW made up of experiences that will shape, engage and prepare students to meet unpredictable and complex challenges for the future. As a participant, you will participate in high impact learning experiences in research, cross-cultural and international perspectives, internships, entrepreneurship, leadership and community service. SOAR is an important component of the Honors experience and cirriculum as it promotes experiential learning and connections. In the first year an Honors student should complete the First Year Badge and should complete the Advanced Badge during their three remaining years at the university. To complete these badges, students will use the Suitable application.
Learning Outcome 1: Students will engage in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary inquiry and critical reflection to enhance your understanding of the complexity of every field of human knowledge and to strengthen your ability to reflect critically about the processes of knowledge formation.
Learning Outcome 2: Students will participate in civic and community engagement to become impactful contributors to various communities, including the Honors College and the University of Wyoming, among others.
Learning Outcome 3: Students will experience and assess a wide variety of global perspectives to increase their understanding of human connectivity and culture and to understand and bridge different ways of knowing and believing in the world.
Learning Outcome 4: Students will build skills in project development, leadership, and teamwork to prepare them for their future academic and professional careers.
The Honors SOAR First-Year Badge includes requirements in the following areas: Building
Honors Community, Intellectual and Creative Engagement, Service, and the Capstone
Training Module. For descriptions of each of these compontents see the First-Year Badge Requirements. Each first-year student is assigned a SOAR Mentor to help support the completion of this badge.
The Honors SOAR Advanced Badge includes requirements in the following areas: Building Honors Community, Global and Cultural Perspectives, Arts and Humanities Integration, Civic and Community Engagement, STEM Investigation, Leadership and Teamwork Readiness, and the Advanced Capstone Training Module. For descriptions of each of these compontents see the Advanced Badge Requirements.
