Applications for HSI 2026 have not opened yet! They will open early Fall 2025 for current Wyoming high school sophomores.

Since 1985, Wyoming's rising junior students have had the opportunity to have their first taste of college life while attending the UW Summer High School Institute. HSI was created to provide an extra opportunity to learn, grow, and mature as young adults. The Program's philosophy attempts to develop the whole person rather than concentrating on academics exclusively.

What all goes into HSI?

Dorm Life

Students will live in the dorms for the full 20 days. They will have a randomly assigned roommate. While in the dorms, they'll also eat at our dining hall. They will also have access to what UW has to offer such as Coe Library, Half Acre Gym, Student Union, and so much more.

Students will take two courses - a STEM and Humanities course. These classes do not carry any college credit since there is no homework, tests or grades. Courses are different each year and showcase some of the fabulous faculty UW has.

 

Students will also participate in fun summer camp activities like the HSI Cup, white water rafting, game nights, roller skating, and so much more. Everyday has something fun happening to build community within HSI.

Students volunteer around the Laramie community for a few hours one day. Laramie is a vibrant community and we like being able to give back to it.

Students will meet other like-minded Wyomingites from across the state. They may have interacted in smaller setting previously, but will not be able to get to know each other more vibrantly.

If you are a current Wyoming high school sophomore, we hope you'll consider this wonderful opportunity. HSI is a 20 day pre-college summer camp that gives you a sense of what college can be like at UW and other universities. You'll take two college-like courses, live in the dorms, and so much more with your cohort.
