Estate Planning Practicum

Student Practicum Director: Chandler Pauling

Having been born and raised in Laramie, I planned to attend the University of Wyoming only long enough to figure out a major before transferring. I didn’t expect to find a new appreciation for my hometown and create a life I didn’t want to leave; I remained at UW and majored in political science.

Still, I planned to work in Washington, D.C. after graduation. Interning for Senator John Barrasso in D.C., however, made me realize I missed Wyoming and had little desire to work in a big city or in politics.

Since both my parents are graduates of the UW College of Law and since the reason I originally wanted to work in D.C. was my interest in how laws affect people, I decided law school was an obvious choice.

I sought out the Estate Planning Practicum after I spent the summer before my 2L year working for an estate planning attorney and loved the work. I came to believe estate planning is the most important legal field because death is the only definite part of life. At the Estate Planning Practicum, we help people through some of the worst moments of their lives. Helping in such a significant way is something I hope to continue to do.

I am a sixth-generation Wyomingite, and no one seems surprised I’ve decided to stay.
