BP America Donates $25,000 to UWs Energy Law Center

The University of Wyoming College of Law’s Center for Law and Energy Resources in the Rockies (CLERR) recently received a $25,000 gift from BP America to develop CLERR’s summer energy law institute.

Launched in the spring of 2013, CLERR’s role is to serve as the focal point for the many energy and natural resource initiatives at the College of Law and to develop new initiatives and outreach opportunities on the campus of the University of Wyoming, in the state of Wyoming, and in the Rocky Mountain region. CLERR is led by Professor Sam Kalen and Temple Stoellinger.

“We are delighted to have BP’s support,” said Stoellinger.  “We intend to utilize their generosity to expand our education opportunities focused on energy law through a summer energy law institute, which we plan to launch in 2015.”

The summer energy law institute will provide UW students, as well as other students from across the country interested in energy law, with an opportunity to gain a specific energy law-focused education utilizing Wyoming’s setting.  UW faculty, as well as expert law faculty from the energy industry and the legal community, will provide instruction on a variety of key energy law areas during the summer program.

“Wyoming is the perfect location for an energy law summer program, Stoellinger said. “We can provide a hands-on, practical education on a wide variety of energy law topics, complementing the in-class academic instruction. With BP’s gift, we aim to provide a dynamic academic and practical energy law education that isn’t currently being offered elsewhere.”

Tony Attardo, BP’s Wyoming Basin Manager, said the donation is part of BP’s commitment to higher education and to the communities where its employees live and work.

“BP is committed to the University of Wyoming and this region, and we’re proud to support the summer energy law institute,” Attardo said. “BP is the nation’s largest energy investor, and it’s in our best interest to help train the next generation of energy professionals through programs like these in Wyoming and across the country. “
