If you regularly visit the Libraries, you probably have a go-to study spot, but did
you know there is so much more that the Libraries offer besides books and study spaces?
Inside Coe Library, there is a range of fun activities from podcast creation to a
coffee and snack break! These are super fun places to go when you need a brain break
or have a project that needs a little creative juice.
Studio Coe
Studio Coe is in Coe Room 237 on level 2 of the library. This is a drop-in space,
which means there are no appointments needed! This space is full of Mac computers
with free software such as Anchor, Inkscape, and Unity 3D to help build virtual reality,
video games, or create graphics. The Mac computers also have Adobe software for all
your photo and video editing needs. Not only do they house all the software you need,
but they also offer workshops for a better understanding of the software itself! This is great if you want to learn
something new or just need a refresher! For more information, check out Studio Coe’s website!
Studio Coe’s Hidden Gem
Podcasts have become the new hot topic for many listeners, but creating your own is
becoming even more popular! The podcast space in Studio Coe is a fantastic way to
get started on your own podcasting journey. Located in Studio Coe (Coe 237) on level
2 of Coe Library, this space comes equipped with everything you need! Headphones,
microphones, and Adobe software are all set up and ready for you to record. To use
this space appointments are needed as this is a hot stop for many! Did we mention
that the room is soundproof so there is no outside noise being recorded? This gets
rid of any interference you may run into if you are not in a studio. To schedule an
appointment, stop into Studio Coe or visit their website or email them at studioco@uwyo.edu.
Student Innovation Center
If you’re feeling crafty or even wanting to try something new, the Coe Student Innovation
Center is the place to go! From vinyl cutting to 3D Printers, this space helps your
creative juice flow! Whether it is for a school project or just your enjoyment, this
space has amazing resources and workshops to learn more about the new hobby you might
want to pursue. Machine reservations are necessary to use this space, but on Thursdays,
there are Geek OUT nights that supply snacks and small workshop-led crafts! This is
a great break from studying and a way to get out and meet more people! To learn more
information or to reserve a machine, visit their website!
Check out movies
Coe Library has a wide selection of DVDs and BluRays to choose from in the media collection
stacks! Whether it be holiday-themed or something you haven’t watched in forever,
the media collection has something for you. To check out a movie, pick from the stacks
on the first floor and check out at the Help Desk. You can also stream films on the
Kanopy app!
Check out iPads or computers
If your computer isn’t quite working or maybe you’d like to try an iPad out before
you buy one, UW Libraries have a perfect no-cost solution. The Help Desk on level
2 of Coe Library offers computers and iPads to check out if you are an enrolled student.
Laptops do need to stay in Coe Library and be returned at the end of the day. iPads,
however, can be checked out for three weeks with one renewal! This is a great way
to get some homework done, study, or even just relax!
Attend an event or workshop
Throughout the year UW Libraries host a bunch of events and workshops. These are great
ways to learn something new or even just chill! Some great ones to attend are the
Wellness and De-stress events, exhibits, and academic-focused workshops. Not only
are these put in place to help you, but they are there to expand your horizons! You
don’t want to miss out, so check out the UW Libraries calendar for more events!
Grab a Coffee or Snack
If you haven't visited The Book & Bean in Coe Library, I highly suggest you do so!
Not only is grabbing a coffee and snack relaxing, but it fuels your brain to get those
assignments done! Take a seat in the lounge or maybe find a quiet spot around Coe
to enjoy your treat! Book & Bean is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
during the school year. If you’d like to view their menu in advance to make sure you
know your perfect order, check out The Book & Bean menu!
