Studio Coe "Beats Battle"
Studio Coe will be hosting its first ever "Beats Battle", a competition to UW students
to see who can best and most creatively interpret the theme (the word "beats") using
audio software and services provided by Studio Coe. The audio submitted can be a podcast,
song, spoken-word poem or anything else that could be interpreted as a "beat".
Eligibility
The contest is open to all students enrolled at the University of Wyoming.
Submitting Entries
The submission deadline is 11:59pm, Tuesday, November 26th, 2024.
Rules:

Audio Length: submissions must be between 1-3 minutes in length.

File Format and Size: Submissions must be in .mp3 or .wav format and must not exceed 10MB.

File Naming: Files should be named as follows: LastNameFirstName_BeatsBattle2024 (e.g., DoeJohn_BeatsBattle2024.mp3)

Submissions must relate to the theme "Beats." This can include, but is not limited to short songs, 'beat-on-the-street' interviews,
beat poetry, or any other creative interpretation of the theme.

Submissions can be as complex or as simple as you want, and made in any digital audio
workstation (DAW) software like Logic Pro X, Adobe Audition, GarageBand, Audacity,
etc.

Collaboration is allowed and encouraged, but please credit all group members and ensure
all people lending their voices have given consent.

Use of audio samples is fine, but please ensure you have the appropriate permissions
and/or give credit to the original artist (if applicable). For more information regarding copyright and copyright law, please see this LibGuide provided by UW Libraries, or schedule an appointment with a Librarian.

Entries cannot contain excessive profanity, nor can it promote hate speech, violence,
or discrimination. Entries will be reviewed for content, and failure to adhere to
these guidelines will result in immediate disqualification.
Where to Find Support?
Studio Coe (Coe Library, room 237) is a drop-in multimedia lab that offers many audio
creation and editing tools that students may utilize to create their submissions,
including:

Audacity, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, and other Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).

A Podcasting/Audio Recording space.

A MIDI keyboard.

Mobile Podcasting Kits that are available for checkout.
Studio Coe is open Monday through Thursday from 10am - 7pm and Friday 10am - 5pm.

Information to Include: Please include your name, your UW email, and a brief artist’s statement or description
of your submission (Max 250 words).
Winning and Prizes
Winners will be chosen via public voting and all entries will be played in Studio
Coe during the Wellness Week events.
The winner will be announced Monday, December 9th.
