A native Ohioan, Dr. Crystal Sieger (BM, Ohio State University; MM, University of Arizona; PhD, University of Arizona) joined the University of Wyoming faculty in 2014. Dr. Sieger resided in Tucson, Arizona for more than 20 years, and came to Laramie after a brief return to Ohio to teach at Case Western Reserve University. While in Southern Arizona, Dr. Sieger taught elementary and middle school band and orchestra for twelve years in the Sunnyside Unified School District. She also served as principal hornist of the Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, and the Foothills Chamber Ensemble. Dr. Sieger currently serves as the horn instructor for Crane Youth Music, a summer camp for middle and high school students at the Crane School of Music at SUNY-Potsdam, where she also performs regularly with the Orchestra of Northern New York and the Potsdam Brass Quintet.

 

As a member of the music education faculty at CWRU, Dr. Sieger worked with undergraduate and graduate music education students, specializing in music teacher identity development and socialization experiences of pre-service teachers. At the University of Wyoming, Dr. Sieger works closely with pre-service music teachers as they transition into the professional world, encouraging them to consider the beliefs and values they hold as the foundation of their music teaching philosophy. Dr. Sieger has pursued research interests in music teacher identity development, music performance anxiety, and collaborative efforts amongst music education faculty regarding music education student success. Her research has been presented at the National Association for Music Education Music Research and Teacher Education Conference, the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium on Music Teacher Education, the Instrumental Music Teacher Educators Colloquium for Teachers of Instrumental Music Methods, the Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Education and the Interdisciplinary Society for Quantitative Research in Music and Medicine, as well as Arizona and Ohio Music Educators Association state conferences.
