
Mike Samp is the new University of Wyoming Police Department (UWPD) assistant police chief.
Samp, who has been with UW police since 1997, graduated from Chadron State College with a B.A. (1991) degree in criminal justice. He worked for the Chadron, Neb., police department from 1992-1997; his duties included DARE officer for Chadron city schools and crime prevention officer. Samp also had to an assignment with the WING Regional Drug Task Force from 1996-1997.
Samp began his UW police career as a patrol officer and later developed and supervised the field training officer program and was a member of the Laramie Police Department special response team. Samp was promoted to sergeant in 2000, coordinated training, scheduling and serving as UWPD custody and control instructor. He also was guest instructor at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy and was promoted to UWPD detective April 2008.

Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the UWPD (www.uwyo.edu/UWPD/) is responsible for law enforcement, public safety, building security, and traffic and parking control at UW.
