
University of Wyoming public relations professionals earned several awards during the Wyoming Press Association's annual associates' group communications contest.
Winners were announced at the WPA's recent annual winter meeting in Casper.
Following is a summary of UW's WPA awards and staff winners in the Department of Institutional Communications:
Milton Ontiveroz earned a First Place award in the news, single release category for "UW student benefits from program to stay in Wyoming."
Steve Kiggins earned a First Place award in the news, three releases in one category for feature stories on the UW hockey team.
University photographers were also honored. Ted Brummond placed first and third in feature photography with his portraits "AJ" and "Mickey." Trice Megginson placed second and honorable mention for his photos, "Snowy Bench" and "Grand Marshal."
In the news photo category, Megginson swept the category with his photos, "Runout," and "Moving Art."
Dave Shelles and Jessica Lowell earned third place with "UWyo magazine."
Ontiveroz earned a second place in magazine articles for his feature, "Going Wide:
Coach brings a new vision to UW football program." Shelles earned honorable mention
for his UWyo story, "Deconstructing the writing process."
College of Agriculture communication staff members Steve Miller, Robert Waggener and Tana Stith placed first in news-related publications with "Ag News.
Miller, Waggener and Stith also placed first in general information publications with "Reflections" and second with "Barnyards and Backyards."
