The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) has selected Ann Marie Hart, associate professor in the University of Wyoming Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, for the AANP State Award for Excellence for the state of Wyoming.

The AANP State Award for Excellence was founded in 1991 to recognize a nurse practitioner who demonstrated excellence in clinical practice. The AANP bestows the award on deserving individuals who make significant non-clinical contributions toward increasing public awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners.

According to her nominator, "Hart is a true family nurse practitioner in every sense of the title and role. She cares for her patients from a holistic, health promotion and evidence-based perspective. She is Wyoming's answer to rural primary care, filling a huge need for our state."

As coordinator of UW's highly competitive nurse practitioner master's-level programs, Hart leads Wyoming's efforts to produce highly qualified family nurse practitioners and psychiatric nurse practitioners.

"Her brilliance," the nominator wrote, "is highly recognized by her published research papers and funded grants, and her gentle but fine-tuned leadership create a high standard of excellence our students come to emulate."
