Campus Construction Update for May 16

May 14, 2010

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 16-22 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction of buildings continues. The buildings along Willett Drive will be deconstructed over the next two weeks. No-parking signs will be set along Willett with intermediate sidewalk closures. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire three blocks have been fenced off so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. Foundation waterproofing, perimeter drain and backfill work will continue. Concrete will be completed in several different areas. Steel erection detailing continues throughout. Metal wall stud framing continues at the interior walls of the first and second floors. Exterior wall framing, the roof parapet and sheathing will continue. Exterior spray-on insulation will begin. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins are scheduled in overhead and in walls. Masonry will begin, and the piping for the water fire line will be installed.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Art design and related finish upgrades are being installed on the second and third floors. HVAC and electrical work will continue this week. There will be no access to second or third floors starting Monday. Access to the elevator for an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) route to the first floor will remain.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Site work will continue. Work on the sidewalk on the south side was postponed due to weather and will continue when weather improves. Final inspections and furniture move-in is under way. A conditional occupancy permit is anticipated to be issued next week.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. East side restrooms upgrades continue. Upper east front edge slabs will be placed this week for ADA seating extension. West window and metal panel installation is ongoing. Evening and weekend work will continue through summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, will become the
Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources)
-- Testing and balancing will conclude this week. Flooring is complete. Landscaping is ongoing with heavy truck traffic in the area so use caution when walking along the sidewalks. Finish work is continuing both inside and outside. Contractor punch list items (final items to complete on list after walk-through of a project) will continue for a few weeks.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Finish work continues in the addition. Painting and texturing is in progress at the west loading dock area. Site work continues, weather permitting.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Campus -- Tree spraying for bark beetles will occur on main campus during the evenings next week.

College of Education Building -- Two of the three doors at the building's main entrance on the south side are closed for replacement. The ADA accessible doors at that entrance will remain operational. Work will continue at this entrance for another month. Please use caution around the work area.

Wyoming Hall -- The south entrance remains closed for door replacement. A temporary ramp and handrail have been constructed at the east entry for handicap access. Signs are posted.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The north entrance is closed for upgrading the entrance and replacing the door. Special access needs should be coordinated with the required department in the building or through the University Disability Support Services office (766-6189). The entrance will be closed for a couple more weeks. Patching and painting will occur in the main hallways and stairwells. Please use caution around work areas and be aware of paint fumes in the building.

Service Building -- Roof replacement is occurring over the east end of the Stores. The staging area is in the north parking lot.

Indoor Practice Facility -- A roof access door and fan louver covers is being installed on the clear story roof. No access issues are anticipated.

Spanish Walk Apartments -- Fire alarm testing will occur through May 21.

Residence Halls -- Fire alarm testing will occur through May 21.

College of Agriculture Building -- Electrical work in AG 6016 is on hold for one or two weeks.
