Campus Construction Update for May 9

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 9-15 at the University of Wyoming:

Parking Advisory -- Some parking spaces will be available in the East Stadium parking lot for commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 8. The lot had been closed for construction work at War Memorial Stadium.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction of buildings continues. The buildings along Willett Drive will be deconstructed over the next two weeks. No-parking signs will be set along Willett with intermediate sidewalk closures. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire three blocks have been fenced off so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. The big yellow crane will be removed Friday evening and Saturday, May 7 and 8. Foundation waterproofing, perimeter drain and backfill work will continue. Concrete will be completed on part of the first floor slab-on-grade. Steel erection detailing continues throughout the structure. Metal wall stud framing continues at the interior walls of the first and second floors. Exterior wall framing and sheathing will continue.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Art design and related finish upgrades are being installed on the second and third floors. Demolition will continue this weekend, there will be no access to the second or third floors starting Monday. Access to the elevator for an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) route to the first floor will remain.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Landscaping continues around the building, the sidewalk on Ivinson Street will be closed. Final inspection is under way inside the building.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be have some spaces available for commencement ceremonies. East side restrooms upgrades continue. Upper east front edge beams will be placed this week for ADA seating extension. The ADA bridge from the elevators to the upper east concourse is complete. West window and metal panel installation is ongoing. Evening and weekend work will continue through summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, will become the
Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources)
 -- Boiler start up is complete. Testing and balancing will start this week. Flooring is complete. Landscaping is ongoing with heavy truck traffic in the area so use caution when walking along the sidewalks. Finish painting is continuing both inside and outside. Punch list items (final items to complete on list after walk-through of a project) on the building will be complete this week.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Equipment installation and mechanical start up for most of the addition is in progress. The existing incinerator will be removed next month allowing for occupancy of the new spaces. Renovation of select areas will begin shortly after that.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

College of Education Building -- Two of the three doors at the building's main entrance on the south side will be closed for replacement beginning Monday. The ADA accessible doors at that entrance will remain operational. Work will continue at this entrance for about two months. Please use caution around the work area.

Wyoming Hall -- The south entrance remains closed for door replacement. A temporary ramp and handrail have been constructed at the east entry for handicap access. Signs are posted.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The north entrance is closed for upgrading the entrance and replacing the door. Special access needs should be coordinated with the required department in the building or through the University Disability Support Services office (766-6189). The entrance will be closed for a couple more weeks. Patching and painting will occur in the main hallways and stairwells. Please use caution around work areas and be aware of paint fumes in the building.

Classroom Building -- The door project is complete and access has returned to normal.

Service Building -- Roof replacement will occur over the east end of the Stores area beginning Monday. The staging area will be in the north parking lot.

Indoor Practice Facility -- A roof access door and fan louver covers will be installed on the clear story roof next week. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture Building -- Electrical work in AG 6016 is on hold for one or two weeks.

Campus Metering -- Condensate meters are being installed in buildings on the west campus; no shutdowns will be required. Electric meters will be installed in sorority houses and residence halls next week. Electrical shutdowns have been scheduled with building occupants.
