Twelve University of Wyoming students will present research in areas ranging from mathematics to criminal justice and psychology Tuesday, Aug. 3, during the UW McNair Scholars Research Symposium.
The 18th annual symposium begins with oral presentations at 9 a.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Former UW McNair Scholar Dannele Peck will present the welcome address. She is the only McNair alumna in the nation who has returned to her home university as a faculty member. Peck is a UW Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics assistant professor. She joined the department in 2006, received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from UW and Ph.D. from Oregon State University.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the McNair Scholars Program is part of the federal TRiO programs that help students to overcome financial, cultural, social or academic barriers.
The McNair Scholars Program prepares eligible undergraduate students from groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate education to enter and complete a doctoral degree program. Services offered include a funded research internship, academic support and tutoring, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation classes and assistance with the graduate school application process.
