These are among the construction activities scheduled Aug. 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:
Traffic Alert -- With the start of fall semester classes, the UW Police Department reminds everyone that the speed limit around the perimeter of campus is 20 mph.
Steam back on this week -- The steam boilers will be re-fired on Tuesday, Aug. 17; steam should be available late afternoon. The portable boiler at Washakie will be removed Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 18. Portable fans at tunnel entrances will be removed Thursday, Aug. 19 and barricades will be removed. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding during this project.
Parking Notice -- Friday, Aug. 20, will be the last day that "A" permit holders will be allowed to park in the "R" residence hall areas. Please keep in mind that "move in" will be Aug. 19 & 20 and Residence Life & Dining Services will clear out the lots directly surrounding the residence halls to allow room for students moving in. Groundbreaking -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Visual Arts Center is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the corner of 22nd Street and Willett Drive. Everyone is invited.
The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Grand opening is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m.) -- Contractor continues miscellaneous punch list (final items to complete on list after walk-through of a project) items within the building. Audio/visual and furniture installation continues.
Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek streets, increases parking spaces in the south shuttle lot) -- Abatement on the Osco building is complete. Deconstruction on Albertsons and Osco buildings continues. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible and both buildings have been fenced off.
Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction is complete and final grading will be complete within the next two weeks.
Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement continues. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire four blocks are fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around the area. Utility disconnects are ongoing with no closures expected.
Downey Hall -- Asbestos removal is ongoing with work focused in the basement and first level.
Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th
streets for contractor staging area. The following activities are scheduled to take
place next week: First floor-- Dywall finish of soffit in lecture hall, light fixture
rough-in and louvers installed in outreach, counter tops in bathrooms, mechanical
and electrical rooms build-out, miscellaneous painting, casework lamination and radiant
Second floor -- Painting of walls, shaft wall enclosures, electrical wiring, restroom countertops, communication wiring, epoxy counter tops, laminate casework, radius window frames and glazing, and plaza roofing.
Third floor -- Painting of walls, shaft wall enclosures, electrical wiring, restroom counter tops, communication wiring, duct work, and mechanical heater.
Rooftop Mechanical Room -- Wall panels on exterior completion, coil piping, air handling unit piping and installation.
Exterior -- Stone on and east and plaza/green roof area, install landscape boulders, alley concrete, exterior windows caulking, exterior window installation, layout and grading for sidewalks on south, electrical tie-ins on the south side.
Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Conservation Corps) -- The departments have moved into the building. Landscaping is complete with few punch list items remaining. Basement painting and ceiling grid is complete. Doors, casework and baseboard heater deliveries are scheduled in the next few weeks. Electrical trim out will begin this week.
Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades continues on the second and third floors. Bamboo panel and carpet installation will begin. There will be no access to the second or third floors. Access to the elevator for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) route to first floor will remain. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through September.
War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot remains closed until Aug. 26. East side restroom fixtures are being set, and concrete and asphalt work is scheduled. Upper east concrete coating and hand rail installation continues. Carpet installation continues in the club area. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.
Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Remodeling work in the original building continues on the north half and at the necropsy area.
The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:
Old Main -- Replacement of the west entry doors should be complete by Aug. 16. Replacement of the doors at the east entrance will begin Aug. 18. The east entry will be closed until approximately Aug. 27. During the closure, all persons must enter through the west entrance. Special needs should be coordinated with Jeff Comin at (307) 760-5779, or email@example.com. The fenced-off area adjacent to the east entrance to allow for asbestos abatement in the tunnel below the building remains in place for one more week. Please use caution around the work area.
McWhinnie Hall -- Tunnel repairs in the McWhinnie/Education are complete.
Biological Sciences Building -- The heating system will be turned on in this building Aug. 17.
Knight Hall -- Work on the east entry is complete and the entrance has been reopened for normal use.
Ross Hall -- Scupper covers will be installed on the south side of the roof Monday, Aug. 16. A UW lift will be in the alleyway between Ross and Knight halls.
Student Union -- Re-roofing is nearing completion. The staging area is between the Union and Coe Library. The pedestrian sidewalk will remain available. Use caution in this area.
College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original building is complete.
Service Building -- Replacement of the canopy over the Stores warehouse entrance is complete.
19th Street -- Work is under way on the east side of the street to place landscape blocks along the sidewalk at the raised landscape areas by the Animal Science/Molecular Biology Building. Please use caution and watch for heavy equipment in the area.
Golf Course -- Work on the clubhouse parking lot is complete. Two concrete swales will be poured at the entrance soon. Work will continue on the east end of the golf course to complete a perimeter path around the course. There should be no access impact, but golfers should be aware of heavy equipment in the area.
Day Lot -- Well repairs at the east end of the lot are nearing completion. Fence replacement should occur next week. Please use caution around the work area.
UW Police Annex -- Repair work to the retaining wall on the east side of the north parking lot continues. The west end of the lot is available for use. Use caution when entering and exiting the lot.
Prexy's Pasture -- The grass island south of the Education Building has been removed and will be replaced with concrete soon. Barricades will remain in place until the concrete cures. The grass island south of the Engineering Building is also being removed and replaced with concrete. The work area will be barricaded and pedestrian traffic will be routed around the area. Be cautious of equipment in these areas. Service access should be from the south or the southwest corner.
Campus Parking Lots -- Parking lot striping for this week will include: King Street; the loop between Coe Library, Knight and Ross Halls, and the loop in front of Hoyt and Merica Halls.
Campus -- The chilled water leak at the 1600 block of Willett Drive on the south side of the street has been repaired. A portion of the street remains blocked off until the hole is filled and road is patched. Use caution in this area.
Campus -- Cleaning of the sewer mains on King Street, Sorority Row and Fraternity Row is complete.
