These are among the construction activities scheduled Aug. 22-28 at the University of Wyoming:
Traffic Alert -- With the start of fall semester classes, the UW Police Department reminds everyone that the speed limit around the perimeter of campus is 20 mph.
Groundbreaking -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Visual Arts Center is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the corner of 22nd Street and Willett Drive. Everyone is invited.
The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements -- The East Stadium parking lot remains closed until Aug. 26. East side energy lobby finishes, HVAC controls work, TV distribution, and IT features to be installed. Upper east concrete handrail installation continues. Trim out, paint touch up and blind installation continues for the club area. An open house is scheduled Thursday, Aug. 26, from 5-8 p.m.
Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- G.E. Johnson Construction will mobilize for the start of construction. Initial site preparation will be locating construction offices and utilities along with fencing the site. Stripping of top soil and initial grading will be the first work performed.
College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Final Report: Grand opening is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m.) -- Audio/visual work will continue. Miscellaneous items, such as work on correcting a duct problem, will continue.
Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek streets, increases parking spaces in the south shuttle lot) -- Abatement on the Osco building is complete. Deconstruction on Albertsons and Osco buildings continues. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible and both buildings have been fenced off.
Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction is complete and final grading will be completed this week.
Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement continues. The deconstruction contractor has begun separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire four blocks are fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around the area. Utility disconnects are complete.
Downey Hall -- Asbestos abatement will continue on the seventh and eighth levels.
Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for contractor staging area.The
following work and installations are scheduled to take place next week: First floor:
Drywall finish of soffit in lecture hall, light fixture rough-in and louvers installed
in outreach, counter tops in bathrooms, mechanical room and electrical room build-outs,
painting, casework, radiant heater, and stair landings at the pre-cast stairs.
Second floor: Painting of walls, shaft wall enclosures finishes, electrical wiring, restroom counter tops, communication wiring, lab epoxy counter tops, casework, radius window frames and glazing, plaza roofing, and plumbing trim.
Third floor: Painting of walls, shaft wall enclosures finishes, electrical wiring, restroom counter tops, communication wiring, duct work, mechanical room heater and plumbing trim.
Penthouse: Wall panels on exterior should be completed, skylight on west side, coil piping, air handling unit piping.
Exterior: Stone on east and plaza/green roof area, landscape boulder setting, green roof media, removal of concrete in the alley and pouring of new concrete, masonry and window caulking, some window installations, layout and grading for sidewalks to the south, electrical tie ins on the south side, transformer and genset being put in place.
Rooftop Mechanical Room -- Wall panels on exterior completion, coil piping, air handling unit piping and installation.
Exterior -- Stone on and east and plaza/green roof area, install landscape boulders, alley concrete, exterior windows caulking, exterior window installation, layout and grading for sidewalks on south, electrical tie-ins on the south side.
Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Conservation Corps) -- The departments have moved into the building. Landscaping is complete with few punch list items remaining. Basement painting and ceiling grid is complete. Doors have been installed. Wood trim installation has started. Electrical trim work is nearly complete. Casework and baseboard heater deliveries are scheduled in the next few weeks. An open house is scheduled for Friday Aug. 27, from 5-7 p.m.
Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades continues on the second and third floors. Bamboo panel and carpet installation continues. Accesses are open for scheduled classes.
Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Dry wall installation continues in the classroom, toilets and support spaces will
be installed in the necropsy area. Painting will begin next week. Foundations for
the west corridor and for infill of the old incinerator pit will continue.
The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:
Old Main -- Replacement of the west entry doors is complete. Replacement of the east entry doors is in progress. The east entry will be closed until approximately Aug. 27. During the closure, all persons must enter through the west entrance. Special needs should be coordinated with Jeff Comin at (307) 760-5779, or firstname.lastname@example.org. Please use caution around the work area. The work adjacent to the east entrance in the tunnel below the building has been completed.
Steam back on -- The steam boilers are on, and steam is available. The portable boiler at Washakie, and fans at tunnel entrances, have been removed. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation and understanding during this annual project.
Prexy's Pasture -- The grass island south of the Education Building will remain barricaded until Aug. 23 to allow the concrete to cure. Concrete has been poured in the island south of the Engineering Building. Barricades will remain in that area until Aug. 27. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be routed around the area. Service access should be from the south or the southwest corner.
Campus Parking Lots -- Parking lot striping for next week will include: The loop in front of Hoyt and Merica Halls will be done Saturday, Aug. 21. King Street, in front of Washakie, will be done Thursday morning, Aug. 26. Cowboy Field bus parking and re-painting handicap parking areas throughout campus will be done all during the week.
Campus -- The chilled water leak at the 1600 block of Willett Drive on the south side of the street has been fixed and the road has been repaired. Curb and gutter will be formed next week. Use caution in this area.
Biological Sciences Building -- The heating system in this building is now operational.
Plant Science Greenhouse -- Electrical work will begin on greenhouse fan upgrades next week. No access issues are anticipated.
Stock Farm -- Roof replacement of the foreman's house and manager's house will begin next week.
Ross Hall -- Scupper covers have been replaced. This work is complete.
Student Union -- Re-roofing is complete.
19th Street -- Work on the east side of the street to place landscape blocks along the sidewalk is complete.
Golf Course -- Work on the clubhouse parking lot is complete. Two concrete swales will be poured at the entrance soon. Work on the east end of the golf course to complete a perimeter path around the course is also complete.
Day Lot -- Well repairs at the east end of the lot are complete. Fence replacement is also complete.
UW Police Annex -- Repair work to the retaining wall on the east side of the north parking lot is complete.
