UW Trustees Approve Supplemental Budget Request

August 24, 2010

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved all four agenda items -- including the fiscal year 2011-12 supplemental budget request -- during a special meeting today (Tuesday) by teleconference.

The trustees voted to authorize negotiations with Pappas & Pappas of Cheyenne for design services for a capital improvement project to be funded by the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, Education Fund of Wyoming. The project consists of a variety of physical and building systems improvements to 11 buildings on campus, including Animal Science/Molecular Biology, Arts & Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences.

Trustees also voted to authorize negotiations with WWC Engineering of Laramie for a Level 2 study and negotiations for design services for a transit equipment storage facility. The project consists of indoor storage for vehicles used primarily for shuttle services, a maintenance area for those vehicles and administrative space for the operation of the shuttle system. The facility will bring together in one location an operation that has doubled in size the past eight years and is currently spread across campus in several locations.

The supplemental operations budget request includes $3.91 million in operating budget funds to pay for membership to the Greater Western Library Alliance, which continues to be a university priority, and to buy equipment for the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory, which is operated by the university.

The capital facilities funding request includes $10 million in bonding for a joint UW-Casper College facility, $2.6 million for renovation and additions to the Fine Arts Center and $750,000 for planning for joint UW facilities at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne and Sheridan College.

Also, the trustees approved an increase in budget authority of $153,230, from external funds, for the Casper Residency Center.
