These are among the construction activities scheduled Sept. 26-Oct. 2 at the University of Wyoming:
Notice: The drive between the Berry Center and the Bureau of Mines Building (9½ Street alley) will continue to have limited access and possibly be closed at times for Berry Center work.
The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
UW Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: Feb. 15, 2011) -- Placement of the footings and the foundation walls are nearly complete. The painters continue to refinish the existing building exterior this week. The pre-engineered metal building delivery is scheduled for Oct. 1, and building erection will occur shortly thereafter.
Downey Asbestos Abatement -- Abatement has been completed on the seventh and eighth floors. Level 6 is the main focus of the work this coming week with preparation starting on level 5.
Downey Hall Modifications -- Exterior work to the planters north of Downey will be the contractor's focus. Layout and preliminary work will begin relating to the entrance addition.
Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Site work will continue through the next few weeks. Over lot grading will be well along after efforts the week of Sept. 22. Foundation excavation will start early in the week along with site utilities starting midweek. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. There will also be trucks hauling excavated materials to the stockpile west of the site. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.
Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: This fall) -- Installation of art design and related finish upgrades continues on the second and third floors. Bamboo paneling installation and sitting vestibule bench work is complete. Work on stair rails, chandeliers, feature wall and entry bench continues. Accesses open for scheduled classes. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through October.
Old Albertsons/Osco Deconstruction (15th and Spring Creek streets, increases parking spaces in the south shuttle lot) -- Deconstruction on Albertsons and Osco buildings continues with foundation removals. Rough grading has begun. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible and both buildings have been fenced off.
Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II (South of Willett Drive between Crane and 22nd streets to Arrowhead) -- Deconstruction and abatement continues. The deconstruction contractor is separating interior materials for recycle/re-use where possible. The landscaping buffer along 22nd Street continues. The entire four blocks are fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around the area.
Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion:
Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for
contractor staging area. The following work and installations are
scheduled to take place next week: All floors: Mechanical, electrical
and plumbing testing and start up.
First floor: Lecture auditorium seating, electrical and plumbing trim,
mechanical rooms connection and start up, painting, interior aluminum
doors and windows, grid ceiling trim out, electric trim out.
Second floor: Painting, electrical and plumbing trim, grid ceiling trim
out, wall base work.
Third floor: Painting, electrical and plumbing trim, ceiling grid
installation, grid install at sound attenuation areas.
Roof: Reheat coil piping, rooftop unit piping, roof duct work, exhaust
fans and stacks.
Exterior: Landscaping boulders, landscape and sidewalk grading, utility
installation, electric relocation at alley, removal and installation of
new concrete in alley.
Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Wyoming Conservation Corps) -- The departments have moved into the building. The basement finish is complete with a punch list scheduled for next week.
Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Finish work will wrap up in the northeast area preparing for a final inspection. The electron microscope installation is scheduled to begin Oct. 4. Finish work will continue on the southwest portion of the building.
The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:
Campus -- Irrigation systems will be winterized for the season beginning Sept. 27. Compressed air will be blown through the piping and may result in some overspray onto sidewalks, streets and driveways. Please be aware of possible slick spots. The work will continue through October.
Pharmacy Building -- The broken water main on the north side of the Pharmacy Building has been repaired. Concrete replacement and cleanup should be complete by the end of the month. Please use caution in this area.
McWhinnie Hall -- Contractors will perform tunnel integrity tests beneath the building beginning next week. Please be aware of trucks in that area.
Hoyt Hall Loop -- Reconfiguration of the handicap parking spaces on the north side will be done this week. The loop will remain open to traffic.
College of Agriculture Building -- The paint department will be painting the main hallway on the sixth floor this week. Please use caution around work areas.
Lewis Street -- Several single-family homes between 11th and 13th Streets will be moved during the next few weeks. Please be cautious of equipment and large trucks in the area as homes are prepared and moved off their foundations.
15th Street -- The brick building just south of Gibbon Street and west of the General Storage building has been deconstructed and parking has returned to normal.
War Memorial Fieldhouse -- A lighting replacement project is under way in the fieldhouse. This project will continue into October. Access to the infield is being coordinated with the athletics department.
Willett Drive -- Curb and gutter at the 1600 block of Willett Drive on the south side of the street has been replaced. A temporary road patch will remain in place until the asphalt can be permanently patched.
