Online UW Alumni Web Site Launched

October 11, 2010

Alumni and friends of the University of Wyoming now have a one-stop shop for university resources, including links to campus events, community links and news.

UW today (Monday) launched the WyoAlumni Web site (http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu) during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Wyoming Union, with remarks by UW Student Affairs Vice President Sara Axelson and UW Institutional Advancement Vice President Ben Blalock.

The Web site features interactive social and career networking tools through Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter; an interactive directory of the university's more than 100,000 alumni and friends; and a secure connection for users to update their information, register for events, make a donation, and connect with fellow UW supporters throughout the world.

"WyoAlumni takes the university community a giant step forward in staying connected with up-to-date information about our alumni," Axelson says. "Graduates will be elated to hear about the great advances, innovations and event opportunities at UW."

WyoAlumni is the result of a year-long implementation process supported by a partnership among Admissions, Advising and Career Services, the Alumni Association, the Foundation, Information Technology and Student Affairs. UW colleges and units were key leaders in the project and support the Web site with current information and events from their area.

"WyoAlumni is a critical new tool for Wyoming's university," says Blalock, president of the UW Foundation. "Keeping UW alumni closely connected with their alma mater ensures a stronger future for the university."

In December 2009, UW contracted with Kansas City-based vendor iModules to create WyoAlumni. The team integrated all of the institution's online engagement activities within one site. With WyoAlumni, UW can more easily manage databases, e-mail communications, donations and memberships, events and networking.

Through its online directory, WyoAlumni delivers an easy way to network and update contact information. Users can network with UW and other alumni and friends using tools such as profile pages, blogs, photos, groups and more.

"Alumni will enjoy social networking as they reconnect with old friends and classmates online," Axelson says. "Multiple populations benefit by the very robust and comprehensive WyoAlumni."

The opportunity to personalize WyoAlumni will be particularly powerful for users. Alumni and friends can build unique profiles on WyoAlumni that include photos and class notes. They will also be able to look for jobs, get information about UW events view current news, and see what UW activities are being held in their region.

"A great sense of school pride and active involvement coming to UW from our former students will elevate support for UW across campus," Blalock says.
