Campus Construction Update for Week of May 1

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 1-7 at the University of Wyoming:

Road Closure Notice: 22nd Street will be closed from Nelson to Arrowhead Street until May 5 to facilitate work on the east stadium parking lot.

Recreation Field Closure: The recreation fields at 22nd and Armory streets will be closed to the public until Aug. 1 for field improvements and lighting.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Indoor Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: May 13.) -- HVAC controls are being installed, and flooring tile is being installed in the team and public locker rooms. Information Technology is installing wiring.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Carpeting, AV cable and lighting installation will start in the classrooms being renovated in Aven Nelson, Geology, Engineering, Arts and Sciences and Agriculture buildings. Fire alarm installation will continue in Agriculture and Animal Science buildings. Duct work installation, ventilation unit removal and asbestos abatement will be under way in the Physical Sciences Building.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until August 15. For commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 7, parking will be available in the Crane-Hill lot and via shuttles from the lot at 30th and Willett to the east side of the Arena-Auditorium. The lot south of War Memorial Fieldhouse is open; vehicles must enter from the west side. Irrigation and storm-water control work continues in Tailgate Park, the fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking in the Summit View area.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The project's contractor will mobilize to begin construction. Construction offices will be moved on site. Fencing will be reconfigured to secure the site and storage area. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company will not be on campus this week.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Window installation is ongoing. Contractor is completing items identified during the inspection.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Watch for excavation and utility work outside the contained construction area. There will be frequent construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Additional materials and equipment will continue to arrive on site for continuing masonry work. Interior wall framing, mechanical/electrical systems installation, roofing and preparation for concrete slab placement and pouring are under way. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Final grading for the two blocks north of Arrowhead and east of Crane Street will continue. A six-block area is fenced off, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around this area.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Physical Sciences Building -- Repairs to the chilled water line northeast of the Physical Sciences Building and south of the Geology Building continue. The line is repaired; concrete will be poured and cleanup will occur through the first week in May as weather permits. Use caution around moving equipment in the area.

Stimulus Project -- Abatement activities continue in the mechanical rooms of Engineering, Geology and Agriculture buildings. Insulation and painting is occurring in the Aven Nelson, Classroom and Arts & Sciences mechanical rooms.

Hoyt Hall -- Work is continuing on the west side of Hoyt Hall to build an ADA ramp from the sidewalk north toward the Student Health building. Traffic control and barricades are placed in the work areas. Please watch for workers and equipment in this area.

15th Street -- Construction of curb, gutter and a new sidewalk on the east side of 15th Street from the north end of Greenhill Cemetery to north of Harney Street is complete. Cleanup will continue for one more week. New asphalt will be placed within the next couple of weeks, once it becomes available. Please be considerate of the workers in this area.

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues on the south side of the building. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; use other entrances to the building. Use caution around work areas.

Campus -- Activation of irrigation sprinkler systems across campus is ongoing. Please use caution around potential icy areas on sidewalks that result from overspray.

Biological Sciences Building -- Painting in rooms 202, 202a and 205 is complete.

Arts and Sciences Building -- Painting in the second and third floor hallways is complete.

Old Main -- Painting and carpet replacement is complete in rooms 108 and 110.

Campus -- The house foundations at 9th and Grand, 11th between Grand and Ivinson, and the north side of Lewis between 11th and 12th will be filled and graded as weather permits. Parking will be affected and heavy equipment will be in use in these locations.

Snow Removal -- Snow and ice removal will occur as needed. Use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow.
