Matt Gray, University of Wyoming Department of Psychology associate professor, is the recipient of the 2011 "James C. Hurst Each Student -- A Person" award.
Established by Cowboy Parents -- the University of Wyoming's parent program, the award recognizes a member of UW's faculty or staff "who goes above and beyond his or her normal responsibilities to personalize the student experience and who creates a warm and caring environment for students."
"Matt truly embodies the ideal characteristics necessary for quality education and excellent mentorship and exhibits a perfect combination of professionalism, leadership, warmth and dedication to his students," said one of Gray's nominators.
The award is named in honor of James C. Hurst, UW's vice president for student affairs from 1981-2000, who is remembered for his warm and caring demeanor, his wisdom and his dedication to student success.
UW students made the nominations and members of the Cowboy Parents Council made the final selection.
"Reviewing the many nominations and reading about how these candidates had such a positive influence on the students was really an awe-inspiring experience for us as a council," said Brad Irion, Cowboy Parents Council chairman.
