Campus Construction Update for Week of March 11

March 9, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled March 11-17 at the University of Wyoming.

Berry Center Gate -- The new Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center gate will begin operating Friday, March 9, at 7 p.m. The gate is located at the alley entrance west of the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, off Lewis Street midway between 9th and 10th streets. It will be open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. on UW business days to allow authorized vehicles access to the interior part of campus. The gate will be closed on weekends and university holidays. Access will be restricted to emergency vehicles, UW service vehicles, a limited number of authorized delivery vehicles and UW personnel with valid disability parking permits.

Access through the closed gate will be authorized UW ID cards only. Requests for ID card authorization should be directed to the ID Card Office. Application forms and a map are available at , and should be completed and submitted electronically. Gate applicants may expect to receive email notification of the decision within five business days. To open the gate, you will need to swipe your WyoOne ID card at the reader just north of the gate, wait while the gate opens and then proceed through the gate. For questions and more information, call (307) 766-5267 or email the WyoOne ID Office at

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion September 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

There will be minor work on underground utilities throughout the site as weather and perimeter work allow. Framing of interior walls will continue, including rough-in of mechanical and electrical systems. Exterior wall system framing will continue on all levels, along with a temporary weather enclosure. Installation of the exterior enclosure will continue along the south and east, and includes insulation and preparation for the start of masonry. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries, and take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion, this month) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage.  Lifts are scheduled to be installed this week.

Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August 2012) -- The new apartments are in a three-block area south of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets. Apartment framing, electrical/plumbing rough-ins and insulation installation continue, followed by drywall installation, texturing and painting. Exterior stone, siding and roofing also continues. The community center and apartment model units are now open Mondays through Fridays from 1-5 p.m. Punch list work continues. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. To allow for snow and ice removal, there is no parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow-away zone on the south side of Lewis Street. Report ice spots to the Physical Plant Service Desk.

Campus -- Fire alarm testing will occur throughout various locations during the week of Spring Break. Intermittent alarms will sound. Building contacts have been notified of testing times.

Law School and Corbett Building -- Lighting replacements will begin next weekend in the hallways. Please use caution around work areas. This project will help UW in its continued effort to be more energy efficient. The work is funded, in part, by energy rebates from Rocky Mountain Power.

Classroom Building -- Crews will begin replacing lamps in light fixtures in hallways, stairwells and various classrooms beginning Monday, March 12, and will continue throughout the week of Spring Break. Please use caution around ladders and scaffolding.

Coe Library -- Two air handling units serving the west area of the old building will be shut down from Wednesday, March 14, through Friday, March 16, for maintenance work. Room temperature fluctuations could occur as a result.

Agriculture Building -- Domestic hot water service will be interrupted Tuesday, March 13, to repair leaks within the system. Hot water will be shut down at 6 a.m. until approximately noon. Hot water will be available in Old Ag C.

Animal Science/Molecular Biology -- Domestic cold and hot water service is scheduled to be shut down Wednesday, March 14, at 5 a.m. to approximately 10 a.m. to repair leaks within the system. Restroom facilities within the building will be out of order during this time period.

Anthropology Building -- Roof repairs will begin late next week at the west entrance canopy roof. Occupants should use the south entrance as the ramp may be blocked for ladder access to the roof.

Agriculture Building -- Painting in various bathrooms continues. Bathrooms will be closed with signs during the work.

Corbett Building -- Painting in the south hallway and storage area continues.

East Shuttle Lot (30th Street and Willett Drive) -- Bus shelter relocations are on hold until the new shelters arrive.
