Universally praised for her strong work ethic and can-do attitude, Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering Accounting Associate Senior Cherie Kelley is the University of Wyoming’s Outstanding Staff Employee of the First Quarter.
The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace.
“She is an extremely organized person and has the ability to keep faculty and staff organized as well,” a nominator wrote. “She is a team player and always works well with others to get the job done.”
Several nominations noted that she willingly carried the entire burden of office services following an employee’s retirement last summer.
“For two months she put in extra hours to keep our ship afloat -- the whole time with a positive attitude,” one nominator wrote. When a new person was hired, Kelley “immediately engaged our new staff member in planning office operations to raise overall productivity and improve the climate in the department. Office operations have never been better.”
Kelley says she has never regretted accepting her position at UW in the fall of 2008.
“I love the academic environment and, oh, the benefits,” says Kelley, who serves on numerous department and campus committees. “Without Dr. David Bagley, Debbie Craft and Cricket Farmer-Hoskins, I wouldn’t have made it to where I am now. Each one mentored me in their own way and I am very grateful.”
Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at www.uwyo.edu/staffsenate/employee-of-the-quarter.
