Sugar beets, high tunnels, cover crops and grape rootstock are among research topics to be highlighted at the University of Wyoming Powell Research and Extension Center Field Day Thursday, July 17.
Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the center’s Foundation Seed Building one mile north of Powell on Road 9. The day concludes with a 5 p.m. dinner on the lawn.
Activities include a visit with Frank Galey, dean of the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, a tour of the center’s research projects, a poster session and refreshments with researchers and industry representatives.
The center is part of the college’s Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station. The station’s administrators say 175 of the center’s 220 acres are irrigated cropland. Research includes agronomic weed control, irrigation, cropping systems, variety performance testing, transgenic variety response to herbicide treatments and alternative crops.
RSVPs for dinner are requested. For more information or to RSVP, call (307) 754-2223 or email sfulton3@uwyo.edu.
