University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance students have an opportunity to learn and perform with the nationally recognized Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company Saturday, Oct. 25, as part of the fall UW Cultural Programs series.

UW students will perform with the American contemporary dance company based in Salt Lake City at 7:30 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, at the Wyoming Union information desk or online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts/. Tickets cost $23 for the public; $19 for seniors; and $10 for students. The Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, located in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, is open for reservations weekdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Besides the night performance, the dance company will work with UW students during the week.

“Cultural Programs arranged for the Ririe-Woddbury Dance Company to come to Laramie to teach a few classes to UW students in the theatre and dance department,” says Janelle Fletcher, UW Cultural Programs manager. “The company believes that dance is for everyone. They live out that mantra by touring nationally and internationally, providing dance education for all levels and outcomes.”

The main focus of the company is contemporary dance. Two professors, Joan Woodbury and Shirley Ririe, founded the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in 1964. Their passion for dance not only included performing, choreographing and teaching, but also a commitment to the value of dance for all and its necessity in the education of youth.
