The University of Wyoming Faculty Recital Series continues with a duo performance Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
UW Department of Music faculty pianist Chi-Chen Wu and guest cellist Sam Ou of Boston present sonatas by Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, along with Robert Schumann’s “Fantasiestücke for Cello and Piano, Op. 73.”
“Sam Ou gives an impassioned performance with remarkable ease and clarity,” praised the Boston Globe in a recent review.
Ou serves as cello faculty member and assistant string chair at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. He has an active musical career in the greater Boston area and has performed at prestigious summer venues across the country.
In 2012, Ou gave the world premiere performance of Larry Bell’s cello concerto, “The Triumph of Lightness,” with the Boston Civic Symphony.
Wu joined the UW music faculty in 2012, leaving behind an established teaching and performing career in the Boston area. She has appeared as a recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist across the United States and in Canada, France, Spain, Japan, Taiwan and China.
A native of Taiwan, she completed her doctorate at the New England Conservatory of Music and held positions at Cornell University and Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.
