UW Global Studies Students to Present Research in March

Three University of Wyoming students from the Global and Area Studies Program will present results of their fieldwork during upcoming events in Sheridan, Cody and Jackson.

The students will discuss their independent research conducted abroad as part of the “What in the World?” program. The program highlights the varied fieldwork that UW master’s degree students from the Global and Area Studies Program completed for their M.A. thesis projects.

The presentations, free and open to the public, are scheduled:

-- Thursday, March 12, at 6 p.m. in Room 008 of the Thorne-Rider Campus Center at Sheridan College.

-- Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. in Cody at the Buffalo Bill Center for the West’s Education Classroom.

-- Monday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Hole High School commons area.

Listed are the students, hometowns and their presentations:

-- John Rader, Cornelius, N.C., “Chilean Growing Pains: Patagonia’s Struggle with Mega Dam Projects.” He’s scheduled to graduate in May with a master’s in political science and a minor in international studies.

-- Natalia Sharova, Moscow, Russia, “Sustainable Growth and Environmental Costs: Australia’s Flirtation with a Climate Policy.” She’s scheduled to graduate in May with a master’s in international studies.

-- Josh Taboga, Laramie, “Will Germans Give Up Their Mercedes? Freiburg’s Green Transportation Model.” He’s scheduled to graduate in May with a master’s in international studies and environment/natural resources.

The programs are sponsored by UW’s Center for Global Studies, UW’s Global and Area Studies Program, the Wyoming Humanities Council, the UW Outreach School and Wyoming’s community colleges, with additional support from the Ruth R.
