Beginning this fall, the Gem City Grand bus route will be renamed LaramieLink and will provide free access from the University of Wyoming campus to the Laramie community, with drop-off and pick-up at the Wyoming Union and Spanish Walk Apartment bus stops.
Consistent with the Gem City Grand route, LaramieLink will offer both east and westbound service, stopping at key locations in Laramie such as: Hastings, downtown Laramie, the Civic Center, Ridley’s, Laramie County Community College and Walmart.
The LaramieLink route will operate from 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with an on-demand service available Saturdays from 2-9 p.m., with passengers picked up and dropped off at all established LaramieLink stops, the South Express lot and all locations on campus. Riders must call 766-RIDE (7433) for service on Saturdays. As with all UW fixed-route shuttles, there is no fare required, the route is open to the general public and is ADA accessible.
“The Gem City Grand route has been invaluable to students attending the university who do not have a personal vehicle or prefer to use public transportation. UW’s LaramieLink will provide this same value to the campus by providing a connection to the Laramie community,” says Paul Kunkel, UW Transit and Parking manager. “To ensure operational and cost effectiveness of LaramieLink, the most popular stops from the Gem City Grand have been retained.”
Kunkel says ridership on the Gem City Grand was approximately 76,000 rides in 2014.
Other notable changes to the UWYO Roundup system will be the construction of two additional shelters at the Wyoming Union, making this location a three-shelter stop. Each shelter will correspond with specific routes to help congestion.
Ridership on UWYO Roundup and ACTA (Albany County Transportation Authority) bus routes was approximately 735,000 in 2014.
Riders are encouraged to use TransLoc, which provides live tracking information for all buses on route and is available for free both on the Web and for most smartphone platforms.
