The University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Un/Modified,” a collaborative dance concert, Thursday, March 3-Saturday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. on the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts main stage.
Tickets cost $7 for UW students, $11 for senior citizens and $14 for the general public. For tickets and information, call (307) 766-6666 or visit www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
Featured dances in “Un/Modified” are choreographed by Jennifer Deckert, UW associate professor of advanced ballet; Marsha Knight, UW professor of ballet; Margaret Wilson, UW associate professor of modern dance; Aaron Wood, UW temporary assistant lecturer in jazz dance; and guest artist Trevor Cook.
The concert will open with a reconstruction of Knight’s 2006 contemporary ballet, “Of A Mind.” The piece was selected for presentation at the Kennedy Center as part of the American College Dance Association’s (ACDA) national festival in 2006.
“I have had an eye to restaging this work,” Knight says. “Senior Julia Cooper possesses such talent, individuality and range of abilities as a dancer, so the choice to remount this work seems perfect. I expanded the cast from five to seven, including several dancers new to our program.”
“Un/Modified” also will feature works from UW student Cook and guest artist Pablo Francisco Ruvalcaba.
Cook’s work, “VIA AIR MAIL,” is based on love letters from World War II and follows the experiences of two people separated at war. His dance has been selected for adjudication at the ACDA’s northwest regional conference, hosted at UW March 9-12.
The concert will close with numbers by UW performers and guest artist Ruvalcaba, a member of the Limón Dance Company. In January, Ruvalcaba taught classes in the Limón technique at UW.
