The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s spring Faculty Recital Series opens with “Old and New: Pivotal Masterworks for Clarinet and Piano” Sunday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Blake McGee, UW assistant professor of clarinet, and Chi-Chen Wu, UW assistant professor of piano, will play pieces that span more than a century, including classic compositions by German composer Johannes Brahms and French composer Francis Poulenc. The recital also will feature modern pieces from Polish-American composer Robert Muczynski and American composer Scott McAllister.
Born in 1929 to an immigrant family in Chicago, Muczynski is known for blending classical influences from his musical training with traditional Polish music he was surrounded by as a child.
McAllister, a graduate of Rice University, mixes traditional classical music with traits of classic rock from the 1960s and 1970s.
