University of Wyoming Calendar for April 9

These are among the activities scheduled April 9-15 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 9, 3 p.m. -- The UW School of Energy Resources Distinguished Speaker Series presents Chris Cornelius, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He will discuss “Tuning Quaternary Ammonium Ionomer Properties Using Composition and Processing to Improve Flow Battery and Water Desalination.” His talk will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Free.

Monday, April 9, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Kyle Spikes, an associate professor at the University of Texas. He will discuss “Corralling Uncertainty in Seismic Reservoir Characterization.” His talk will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, April 10, 1:30 p.m. -- Kathy Reichs, a best-selling author and forensic anthropologist, will present a public talk and book signing in the UW College of Education auditorium. Free.

Tuesday, April 10, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dark Matter Mystery.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, April 11-Saturday, April 14 -- A variety of events will take place during the 22nd annual Shepard Symposium on Social Justice in the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 12, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents musical group Anarchy in the Prairie in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, April 12, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Collegiate Chorale will present “A Breathing Peace,” featuring five guest speakers in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $6 for students. Thursday, April 12-Saturday, April 14, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s Associated Students of the Performing Arts presents “Mephistopheles on His Knees.” The performance will be in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Friday, April 13, 12:10 p.m. -- The UW School of Energy Resources Faculty Speaker Series presents Bruce Parkinson, director of the Center for Photoconversion and Catalysis. The lecture will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, April 13, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Call Me by Your Name” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. The film is rated R. Free.

Friday, April 13, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble, the UW Jazz Ensemble II and Western Blue in concert in the Performing Arts concert hall.
