Anthony McPherson, a world poetry slam ranked contestant, will appear at the University of Wyoming Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. A slam poetry competition for UW students -- with cash prizes awarded -- also is planned during the event.
Students can register in the Campus Activities Center (CAC), located in Room 012 in the Wyoming Union. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only students will be allowed to submit poetry for the competition, with cash prizes awarded. The first-prize winner will receive $200; second place $100; and third place $50.
Before the event, McPherson will host a workshop at 6 p.m. in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. The workshop is free and open to the public. McPherson’s poetry mixes various art forms and a variety of character impressions.
“Anthony represents those who left home far behind to make it and those who will go far enough to find themselves,” according to The College Agency, a collegiate booking firm.
