The crowd-pleasing Chorale by Candlelight concert will be performed by the University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale Wednesday, Nov. 28, and Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Laramie’s St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
This year’s theme is “The Returning.” Because the popular holiday concert is always a sellout, people are urged to purchase tickets early, says Nicole Lamartine, UW’s director of choral activities. Seating is general admission, with doors opening at 7 p.m.
The select choir is directed by Lamartine and accompanied on piano by Ginny Gingrich. Guitarist Jeff Selden also will join the choir during the concert.
“This season brings opportunity for sharing, giving, healing, peace and strengthening community; and the program, ‘The Returning,’ includes a variety of music to highlight these themes,” Lamartine says. “Music from many spiritual traditions serves to connect the program, and members of the choir offer their own poetry.”
Pieces such as “Sanctus” from Bach’s B Minor Mass and a premiere of “If You Want to Hold My Hand” by Minnesota composer Kyle Pederson will be featured during the performance.
The graduating seniors from the ensemble are featured in “Grow Little Tree.” The ensemble also will present a work by Eric Whitacre, titled “Goodnight Moon.”
Following tradition, the concert concludes with candlelight illuminating the church, with all attendees singing the holiday classic “Silent Night.”
