Registrations are still being accepted for the 11th COMBAT Color Fun Run, a University of Wyoming student group’s support of military veterans.
The race, sponsored by Students Supporting Veterans, begins at noon at Optimist Park Saturday, April 20, and will follow the Laramie River Greenbelt Trail running path.
Students and children 17 and younger run for free, but registration packets are not included. Registration packets for the UW Engineering Fund for Enrichment (UWEFE) COMBAT Color Fun Run are $30 for adults and $20 for students and children. However, 200 free registration packets have been made available for students; 100 for UW College of Engineering and Applied Science students and 100 for all other students. The packets include an event T-shirt, a pair of sunglasses, color packets and a water bottle.
Registration can be completed at the Wyoming Union information desk, by visiting www.combatcolor.com or at the park the day of the event, starting at 11 a.m.
The UWEFE COMBAT Color is a 3-mile run or 1.5-mile walk, and game of color tag. Runners are encouraged to wear camouflage and a white shirt to make the color more visible. At the finish line, runners are incited into “battles” with their family and friends. Volunteers along the route “battle” runners by throwing handfuls of color -- cornstarch dyed with food coloring -- at runners as they pass. Runners “battle” volunteers by throwing color back.
Because the event is organized by military veterans, all proceeds will fund the Connor Montgomery Cloud Memorial Scholarship for Veterans at UW. To donate to COMBAT Color Fun Run and the veteran scholarship, email Luke Cloud, a UW doctoral student and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, at COMBATColorFunRun@gmail.com.
