The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents the Thiem/Bogard Duo Friday, Sept. 27.
Cellist Barbara Thiem and pianist Theresa Bogard will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
The duo will perform diverse 20th century works for cello and piano, including pieces by Benjamin Britten and Francis Poulenc.
Thiem is an internationally acclaimed cellist who has performed throughout Europe and the United States. She teaches cello and coaches chamber music at Colorado State University (CSU). She also teaches in the precollege chamber music program at CSU and has administered the International Summer Academy of Schloss Ort, Austria. Additionally, she is a member of the Mendelssohn Trio.
She has written a number of articles on good posture and practice habits. She also has been involved in research for the Center of Biomedical Research in Music Therapy at CSU.
Bogard is a UW professor of music and head of the Keyboard Area. She is an active performer, combining varied interests in historical performance practice, contemporary music, chamber music and the music of women composers. She has performed in solo and chamber music programs throughout the U.S. and other countries, including Australia, Brazil, China and Italy.
A much-sought-after collaborative pianist, she has performed with a variety of musicians. She is featured on a recording of solo piano works by Louise Talma. Additionally, she has served as an adjudicator at numerous regional, national and international piano competitions.
