The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees will receive reports on enrollment, strategic plan implementation and President Ed Seidel’s freedom of expression, intellectual freedom and constructive dialogue initiative during the board’s regular meeting Wednesday-Friday, Sept. 25-27.
Also on the agenda is a discussion of possible changes to UW regulations that would allow the carrying of concealed weapons on campus.
The meeting will take place at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. Public sessions of the board and its committees may be observed by the public at https://wyolinks.uwyo.edu/trusteessep24/.
Committees of the board will meet Wednesday in several rooms of the Gateway Center, starting with the Facilities Contracting Committee at 8 a.m.
Thursday’s meeting of the full board will begin at 8 a.m. with an executive session. The public session is expected to start at 9:30 a.m.
The discussion regarding concealed weapons is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Thursday, following a 10:30 a.m. public comment period on that issue and any other topics. Those wishing to address the board in person are asked to arrive early and register via a sign-in sheet in the Gateway Center lobby. Public comment is limited to three minutes per person and is subject to the discretion of the board chairman.
UW’s current Regulation 6-4 prevents “dangerous weapons” from being carried in university facilities, with exemptions granted by the UW Police Department on a case-by-case basis if the requester has a legitimate security concern and firearms training. Changes are being considered in light of Gov. Mark Gordon’s directive to the university, community colleges and school districts to “take up these difficult conversations again and establish policies that allow for the safe carry of concealed weapons within their facilities.”
The presentations regarding enrollment, strategic plan implementation and the free expression initiative are scheduled Thursday afternoon.
Another executive session is scheduled at 8 a.m. Friday, with the board’s business meeting from 9-11:30 a.m.
Trustees also are scheduled to participate in UW Homecoming activities, including the President’s Homecoming Dinner Friday evening.
The trustees’ complete agenda, along with a report that includes background information on agenda items, will be available at www.uwyo.edu/trustees/2024-meeting-agendas-materials-and-minutes/september-25-27-2024-meeting.html.
