Forms and General Information

Students wanting to complete a graduate internship should use this request form. Once completed, submit it AND the proposal to the faculty supervisor who will oversee your experience. Requests should be sent to the office administrator for department review.

The proposal can be a job description provided by the company, an offer letter outlining the terms and expectations of the internship, or a self-written description of the duties and skills you will be learning/using.

Student Awards

 

Harry Hill Graduate Excellence Award

(Nominations due April 15)
The purpose of this award is to recognize petroleum engineering graduate students, who have achieved outstanding performance in course work, research, and service. The accomplishments of these outstanding students are demonstrated through their academic GPA, publications in archival journals, presentations at national & international meetings, service to the department, college, university and/or profession.

Nomination & Selection Procedure:

  • Nominations should be submitted to the PETE Awards Committee no later than April 15 of current year.
  • The nomination packet should include the following:
    1. A nomination letter from a faculty member in Petroleum Engineering and two other support letters
    2. A current resume
    3. Evidence of excellence in course work, research, and service. This may include TA evaluations, a sample of published work, service and leadership roles in student and civic organizations, and other information indicative of excellence in these areas
  • The PETE Awards Committee will review nominations and select the recipients of this award by April 30 of current year.
  • Two award recipients will be identified. The first recipient will be awarded $1,000, and the second will be awarded $500. Each will receive a plaque celebrating their accomplishment.

Student Travel Information

UW Travel Website

  • Students traveling on UW business (meetings, conferences, presentations, etc.) must complete a travel request form and submit it to their faculty supervisor in advance of the travel dates. This applies every time you travel regardless of who is paying the expenses.

  • Students traveling internationally have specific requirements regarding their insurance and that information is found on this website, so review the information carefully before each trip.

  • International students should check in with the ISS office well in advance of planned travel to ensure visa requirements are met.

  • Students are welcome to submit a request for financial support when traveling to approved meetings and conferences. 

    1. Submit requests to the Petroleum Engineering Graduate Committee.

    2. If recommended, they will forward your request to the department head.

    3. Cost-sharing is a requirement for student travel. Be prepared to request funding from multiple sources:
