Research Description

Too small to be seen without magnification, microbes are living organisms found almost everywhere: air, water, plants, and soil.

Microbes Can Be:

  • Bacteria
  • Fungi
  • Algae
  • Viruses

SRAP participants will get to study microbes in the soil with the help of UW faculty and labs.  Participants may engage in field work, data analysis, project design, computational science, and/or data science.

SRAP Aims To:
  • Recruit First-Generation and Underrepresented Students
  • Engage youth in STEM-related activities
  • Maintain a strong history of college placement for SRAP alumni
SRAP Focuses on Providing:
  • Meaningful hands-on experience in UW labs with one of our faculty members 
  • Stimulation of interest in a future STEM career
  • Increased participation of first generation college students and underrepresented minorities in a research experience
  • Development of student comfort in an academic and professional setting
  • Access to resources that ensure higher education success
