How do I know if I'm required to attend?

First-Time, Full-Time Students

Saddle Up is required for all first-time, full-time students attending the University of Wyoming in fall 2025.

Students earn one credit hour toward their degree upon successful completion of the Saddle Up program. Saddle Up utilizes S/U grading. To receive a satisfactory grade, students must attend all required events and actively participate in the course during the week of Saddle Up; this includes completing all required assignments, projects, or exams.

Transfer Students

While Saddle Up is not required for incoming transfer students, attendance at either Saddle Up or Transfer Saddle Up is still encouraged! A transfer student is someone who attended another post-secondary institution full-time, after high school graduation. College or University credits earned while a student was enrolled in high school do not count toward transfer status for Saddle Up. Transfer Saddle Up is an optional, one-day program focusing specifically on the needs of transfer students. Transfer students wanting to opt in to the full week of Saddle Up may email saddleup@uwyo.edu.

Limited Waiver Reviews

We understand that circumstances may prevent students from attending some or all of Saddle Up. Students inquiring about a waiver from Saddle Up would've needed to complete the waiver request form by the August 4, 2025, deadline, which has now passed. Our waiver request form is open each year from early February to early August. The waiver committee reviews requests that are received before the deadline. Please note that very few situations qualify a student for a waiver from Saddle Up and that submission of the form does not guarantee a waiver; students will be notified of the committee's decision via their UW email. If a waiver is granted, students may be enrolled in an alternative course for the fall semester. Students who fail to attend without waiver approval will receive an unsatisfactory grade in the course. Questions? Email saddleup@wyo.edu.
