Professional Summary

Dr. Hegeman-Davis joined the School of Computing from the University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign. In her role at UIUC, she led and contributed to major computing initiatives including serving as a key lead in developing a new Computer Science Teacher Education Endorsement program and co-developed the first computer science undergraduate licensure pathway in Illinois.

She also helped author new K-12 computer science education legislation in Illinois and developed many important partnerships including with industry, the Illinois Board of Education, community colleges, and other Universities. Hegeman-Davis also launched and ran annually the Illinois Statewide K-12 Computer Science Education Summit which brought together key stakeholders from across Illinois to address the barriers, obstacles, and successes in broadening participation in computer science at the K-12 level.

Dr. Hegeman-Davis is Senior Personnel for the Education Thrust of the Artificial Intelligence for Future Agricultural Resilience, Management, and Sustainability Institute (AIFARMS) and Affiliate Faculty in the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). She also served as the STEM education lead for numerous campus initiatives such as the Inclusive Innovation in the Quantum Sciences and the Accessible Technology lead for the Campus-Community Compact to Accelerate Social Justice.

Prior to joining UIUC, Dr. Hegeman-Davis worked as an Education Research Consultant on International Development in Education projects. Her primary focus was on accessible and quality education opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa, but she also worked with teams worldwide. Her current research interests include Teacher training, K-12 Computer Science integration, STEM education in rural contexts, CS equity and inclusion, STEM pathways and retention, and educational policy.
